Charlotte Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) @ Freedom

Freedom Regional Library hosted the Charlotte Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) for a workshop entitled "Accessing the Media" on Saturday, April 19. The workshop featured notable media personalities including Steve Crump (WBTV) and representatives from the Charlotte Observer and Shelby Star newspapers. The event was well received by the audience and covered numerous secrets for accessing the media.

1. Decide what kind of coverage you want
2. Find a news angle
3. Determine which news outlets to approach, and how to approach them
4. Call the appropriate person
5. Watch your timing to ensure your chances of coverage, select a good time and day for your event
6. Be prepared for coverage

Other topics discussed included networking tips, relationships building and the current state of the media including the shifting business model for local news outlets and newspapers.
