Timothy Tyson Visits Freedom Library and Phillip O. Berry

The Freedom Regional Library partnered with Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology on April 24th to host an author visit. Dr. Timothy Tyson, author of Blood Done Sign My Name, addressed nearly 80 high school students in which he discussed his memoir on race relations in the South during the 1970s as well as his own experience in high school.
In addition, Ms. Mary Williams, a profound gospel singer, sang spirituals and explained the cultural significance of them. Both Dr. Tyson and Ms. Williams were able to captivate the audience and involve them in their one-hour presentation. Each of the students in attendance will receive a free copy of Dr. Tyson's memoir, which is currently being made into a feature film. The Freedom Regional Library would be honored to host a return visit next month!
