June is BLACK MUSIC MONTH at Freedom Regional!!!

Monet Wallace and Dot Siler coordinated and co-hosted the combined Black Music Month Celebration and Freedom Art Dedication held at Freedom Regional Library on June 14, 2007. The event was attended by at least 350 people, who were entertained by several choirs, vocalists, and musicians, covering various genres of music.

Participating in this event as both a host and a performer, I felt that those who attended were amazed and pleased (as I was) at the abundance of talent represented, as well as a wide range in ages of the crowd. Many also said that their hopes are that we make this an annual event at the branch. MONET WALLACE

The Arts and Science Council connected with us to have the “Faces of Freedom” mosaics dedication program at Freedom and to acknowledge the artist, Cheryl Foster, who created tile mosaic portraits on 12 neighborhood entry monuments along Freedom Drive, including 36 separate scenes. The mosaics depict current community members and historical events in the Freedom Drive area. The combined event provided double excitement for the Freedom Drive area.
