Black Music Month & FRL 5 Year Anniversary

On Friday, June 20th, the Freedom Regional Library celebrated Black Music Month and our 5th year anniversary in style. The night was filled with soulful music by people of all ages and backgrounds, which lifted the spirits of all those who were in attendance.

Dr. Thomas Moore (pictured above and below) was the MC, which made the night not only enjoyable but also joyous!

We were also lucky enough to have the Myers Park United Methodist Church in the Round Singers with us to celebrate.

The choir sang with such splendor and intensity that by the end of the night they had the entire audience out of their seats holding hands and singing. Their voices were truly harmonious.

Other musical performances were done by Clara Jones, Melik Barber (Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin), Ariel Hamdan (Polonaise in A Major by Chopin), John Barber (Yes, God Is Real), Emani Barber (Lift Every Voice & Sing by James Weldon Johnson), David Smart (Soaring by Schumann), and Myranda Dorsey (Encourage Yourself). Each performance, whether it was played on the keyboard or sung, was extraordinary and made the night even more special.

After a wonderful and uplifting evening filled with inspiring and moving music, we ate a feast provided by Prime Sirloin Restaurant. We had fried chicken, potato salad, green beans and yeast rolls. In addition, we had a huge sheet cake to celebrate Freedom Library's 5th birthday.

Overall, it was a night to be remembered. Not only did we celebrate and commemorate Black Music Month in all its richness - its joy and its sorrow - we also recognized Freedom Library's 5th year anniversary. The Freedom Library is continually grateful to all those in the community that support us. We ask that you continue to reach out to us, so that we may continue to reach out to you. Again, we thank you for your support over the last 5 years and we look forward to what the next five years will bring!
