Tim Tyson Book Signing

Tim Tyson returned to Freedom Library today to sign copies of his astonishing book, Blood Done Sign My Name, for Phillip O. Berry students and teachers who attended his presentation in April. We were also lucky enough to have Mary Williams back as well.

Dr. Tyson stayed at the library for over three hours, not only signing books, but personalizing each and every one.

In total, he signed 110 copies of Blood Done Sign My Name!
And whether he was dealing with one student...

or a room full of students and teachers...

Dr. Tyson took the time to talk with each individual by offering advice and encouragement, telling a story or simply listening. All in all, we were honored to have Dr. Tyson and Ms. Williams back and we welcome them to return again!

A Salute to Mecklenburg County Veterans

Thursday, May 8, 2008
"Salute to Veterans"

@ the Freedom Regional Library

On Thursday, May 8th, the Freedom Regional Library was proud to host and take part in "A Salute to Mecklenburg County Veterans" - a celebratory event that was organized thanks to our collaboration with the Mecklenburg County Veterans Service and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #7775 Ladies Auxiliary. A special thank you to Robert & Wanda Weeks and Robert Bayless for their continued help and support in preparing for this event. "Salute to Veterans" took months of planning, dedication and hard work to put together - just a few of the characteristics that we honor our veterans for espousing.

Not only did this spectacular event bring in veterans, but also friends and families of veterans and other interested community members.
"Salute to Veterans" was inspiring and included snippets of history, a presentation of the colors performed by the JROTC students from the Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology,
public recognition of veterans,
a candle lighting ceremony for those veterans who have passed
and a beautiful musical performance of "Wind Beneath My Wings."
Every participant and attendee brought something special to this event and truly made it a night to remember. To veterans in Mecklenburg County and all over the world, we salute you!
