Gingerbread House Fun at FRL

What do you get when you mix graham crackers, marshmallow whip, little candies and empty milk cartons with preschoolers and senior citizens? A whole lot of fun! Freedom Regional Library hosted a gingerbread house competition on Wednesday, 11/29 with 27 people in attendance. The intergenerational program was a great success as young children and seniors worked side by side to construct their gingerbread houses. The construction materials were sampled and quality controlled to the delight of both young and old. Dot Siler, Tracy Creech, and Annette Foster-Grier organized the event with Vanessa Ramseur and Kwashawn Berry lending a helping hand to the attendees as well. Dot Siler worked extremely hard to secure the materials through generous donations from area businesses including Harris Teeter and Walmart.

HealthCare Expo 2006 @ Freedom

The Freedom Regional Library and the Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology hosted the 5th Annual Healthcare Career Expo on Saturday, 11/11/06 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This annual event is made possible through the collaboration of Health Careers 4 Me, the Carolinas HealthCare System, Communities in Schools and PLCMC. The Expo featured hands-on clinical exhibits staffed by healthcare professionals, panel discussions and a free financial aid seminar. Representatives were present from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, Stanly Community College, South Piedmont Community College, the Mercy School of Nursing, Carolinas College of Health Sciences, CPCC, Latino Pathways and the College Foundation of North Carolina. A strong turnout from the community was evident as families filtered through the booths to take advantage of the wealth of information available to them. Many new library users registered for library cards as well.
